BCAA Wraps Up Successful Evolve E-Cargo Bike Pilot in North Vancouver, with E-Cargo Bikes set to return in spring 2025

BURNABY, BC, January 9, 2025 – BCAA announces that its Evolve E-Cargo Bike pilot will return in spring 2025 after a successful six-week pilot this fall. From September to October 2024, the Evolve E-Cargo Bike pilot program made two types of e-cargo bikes available for free public use, to promote more sustainable transportation options on the North Shore.

BCAA partnered with the District of North Vancouver (DNV) and the City of North Vancouver (CNV) to launch the innovative e-cargo bike pilot program for North Vancouver locals – the first of its kind in British Columbia.

Key rider stats from the fall 2024 Evolve E-Cargo Bike pilot:

  • With seven e-cargo bikes available from September to October 2024, 88 riders tried out the bikes and took 136 trips.
  • The e-cargo bikes were available at four public libraries and one multi-unit residential building. The North Vancouver City Library and Lynn Valley Library emerged as ridership hotspots, accounting for 70% of total trips.
  • Trips tended to be longer than those on traditional e-bike share systems, highlighting the utility of e-cargo bikes for extended errands or family outings.

The upcoming Spring pilot will run from March to October 2025. With the successful Evolve E-Cargo Bike pilot and ongoing Evo Car Share service already in North Van, BCAA is eager to explore how its micro mobility solutions can further support the North Shore’s sustainability and mobility goals.

"The e-cargo bike pilot has been an incredible opportunity to showcase how micromobility can serve diverse transportation needs around North Van. By providing a sustainable alternative for errands, commuting, and family trips, we’ve seen how programs like this can seamlessly integrate into community life,” says Leanne Buhler, Head of BCAA’s Evolve E-Bike and E-Scooter Share. “We’re excited to build on this success and look forward to supporting the North Shore in expanding access to more innovative and sustainable transportation options in the future."
