British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA) is committed to providing its members and clients with full disclosure and transparency on all insurance-related transactions, processes and procedures. To that end, BCAA is pleased to present the following information on insurance products underwritten by BCAA Insurance Corporation – specifically Home, Recreational Vehicle, Small Business*, Travel and Travel Accident Insurance products.
There are three parties to an application for one of these types of insurance coverage:
- the applicant
- BCAA Insurance Corporation
- B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd.
Proposed transactions are between the applicant and BCAA Insurance Corporation – a provincially licensed insurer, regulated by the British Columbia Financial Services Authority.
B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is responsible for facilitating proposed transactions. This role is carried out by individual insurance agents who are employees of B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. All BCAA insurance agents hold a general insurance license as required by the Insurance Council of British Columbia.
B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is compensated for facilitating insurance transactions by way of a commission paid by BCAA Insurance Corporation. Here is a breakdown of those commissions:

In some cases, BCAA Insurance Corporation may also pay a referral fee to a party unrelated to the transaction.
*Certain coverages available through Small Business Insurance are underwritten by other entities. Equipment Breakdown and Cyber Risk coverages are underwritten by The Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company of Canada. Legal Expense coverage is underwritten by HDI Global Specialty SE. B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is compensated for facilitating insurance transactions for these Coverages by way of a commission paid by these underwriters. The commission shown in the table above does not include commission in relation to these coverages.

Auto Insurance
Proposed transactions are between the applicant and CAA Insurance Company (BCAA Optional Car Insurance policies), Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada (Advantage Auto policies) and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (Autoplan policies).
B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is responsible for facilitating proposed transactions. This role is carried out by individual insurance agents who are employees of B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. All BCAA insurance agents hold a general insurance license as required by the Insurance Council of British Columbia.
B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is compensated for facilitating insurance transactions by way of a commission paid by CAA Insurance Company (BCAA Optional Car Insurance policies), Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance Company of Canada (Advantage Auto policies) and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (Autoplan policies).
Life Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance and Health & Dental Insurance
Proposed transactions are between the applicant and the Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company doing business as Securian Canada.
B.C.A.A. Holdings Ltd. is responsible for facilitating proposed transactions. This role is carried out via e-commerce through a quote/purchase option online on BCAA’s website.
B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is compensated for facilitating insurance transactions by way of a commission paid by Canadian Premier Life Insurance Company for referrals of potential customers for Life, Critical Illness and Health & Dental Insurance.
Pet Insurance
Proposed transactions are between the applicant and Northbridge General Insurance Corporation (Northbridge), underwriters for PTZ Insurance Services Ltd. (PTZ).
B.C.A.A Holdings Ltd. is compensated for facilitating insurance transactions by way of a commission paid by PTZ for referrals of potential customers. PTZ receives fees and commissions from Northbridge for sales and administration of pet insurance.
