Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
Our DEI Vision
Our vision is for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to become part of the fabric of BCAA, weaving through our culture, values and brand and further strengthening our foundation – Our People. Here’s what this really means to us at BCAA:
“Diversity” is respecting and appreciating the differences in our team members and their ideas. We are committed to supporting a workplace that represents, respects and celebrates visible and/or invisible differences, including gender identity and expression, age, race/ethnicity, mental/physical ability, religion, sexual orientation, language, education, family or marital status, culture, life experience or perspective.
“Equity” is the just and respectful treatment of our people. We endeavor to achieve fair policies, processes, opportunities and outcomes for all of our team members, particularly those who are underrepresented and/or marginalized.
“Inclusion” is creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed and valued, regardless of their differences. At BCAA we strive for our team members to feel comfortable bringing their authentic and full selves – their minds and their hearts – to work.
Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups that value team members’ unique perspectives, encourage knowledge sharing and provide meaningful resources, peer support and professional development opportunities. They are open to any and all team members, inclusive of advocates and allies.
BCAA has 4 ERGs:
Accessibility Partnerships
Accessible Employers
We are proud of our longstanding partnership with Accessible Employers. Accessible Employers works with businesses of all sizes to navigate the accessibility landscape, establish inclusive employment policies, access training and resources and connect with other employers on this journey.
We are proud to say that Eric Hopkins, our President and CEO, is one of 25 local business leaders who serves as a member and Co-Chair of the Presidents Group advisory committee, appointed by the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
We continue to enhance our own recruitment efforts to ensure that people with disabilities can see themselves working at BCAA and feel welcome and supported to apply for roles with us.
Rick Hansen Foundation
As part of our commitment to continuously improve the physical accessibility of our workplaces, BCAA has partnered with the Rick Hansen Foundation (RHF). Several of our BCAA locations have achieved Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification. In addition to this, our Facilities & Real Estate Team is certified in universal design with the RHF. This allows us to incorporate principles of accessible design into our ongoing maintenance and renovations, so that all our Members, customers and team members feel supported when they are on our premises.

Crystal’s Journey With Us
Truth and Reconciliation
As a Purpose-led organization, we must do our part to reflect on our complex historical role in British Columbia and with Indigenous communities. Here are a few ways we’re listening, learning and actively advancing reconciliation today:
- Offering reconciliation-related learning opportunities to team members.
- Including location-specific land acknowledgements within BCAA Service Locations and Auto Service Centres in consultation with local Indigenous communities.
- Offering team members one paid day of leave for cultural, religious, ceremonial or spiritual observances of their choosing.
- Supporting the Indian Residential School Survivors Society, a BC-based organization that provides services to residential school Survivors.
- Matching employee donations to Indigenous organizations or organizations directly supporting Indigenous communities.
BCAA is committed to continuing to incorporate reconciliation into our policies, practices and culture in alignment with the TRC’s Calls to Action.
Pay Transparency Report
At BCAA, we pride ourselves on equitable and transparent pay policies and practices. Our commitment to diverse, equitable and inclusive employment comprises all aspects of a team member’s journey, including compensation. We believe everyone deserves to be compensated fairly in such a way that recognizes, respects and values individual talent and contributions. We share our pay data as per the British Columbia Pay Transparency Act legislation in this report. Read the BCAA 2023/2024 Pay Transparency Report.
